VIC: Children in care drop out early - study

poorMELBOURNE - Children in out-of-home care change schools often, repeat grades, drop out early and suffer higher rates of mental and physical health problems that limit their participation at school, a new report has found.

Anglicare Victoria and Wesley Mission Victoria are calling on the Victorian Government to prioritise education needs and meet the aspirations of children in care.

SA: SA lobbies for Greek language studies

mikeADELAIDE - South Australian Premier Mike Rann has called on the federal government to include the Greek language in the new Australian schools curriculum.

Mr Rann has written to Federal Education Minister Simon Crean describing Australia as "all the richer" because of the influence of Greek language and culture.

"The state government strongly believes that Greek should be included in the languages learning section of the Australian curriculum," he said.

But education department chief executive Chris Robinson said Sue Burtenshaw had not been disciplined after an investigation into issues at the Coober Pedy Area School.
